Ares Management Corporation (“Ares”), which was previously a state law limited partnership, elected to be taxed as a corporation for federal and state income tax purposes effective March 1, 2018. Ares converted to a state law corporation and changed its name to Ares Management Corporation effective November 26, 2018. Both common and preferred shareholders will receive a Form 1099-DIV from their brokers for distributions made after March 1, 2018.
Prior to March 1, 2018, Ares was treated as a partnership for U.S. federal and state income tax purposes. Both common and preferred shareholders should have received a final Schedule K-1 for the tax period ending February 28, 2018.
